Xi Jiang

Xi Jiang, << shee jee ahng >>, or West River, is a major transportation route in southern China. The Xi Jiang, also spelled Hsi Chiang, flows southeast for about 1,250 miles (2,012 kilometers) from the Yunnan highlands. It meets up with several other smaller rivers and forms the Zhu Jiang (Pearl River). The Zhu Jiang Delta is one of the most densely populated and economically developed regions of China. The Xi Jiang links Hong Kong and the delta cities of Macau and Guangzhou with the city of Wuzhou, which is about 230 miles (370 kilometers) upriver from the South China Sea.
