Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, trains United States Marine Corps recruits generally from west of the Mississippi River. It covers 388 acres (157 hectares) and lies about 3 miles (5 kilometers) northwest of downtown San Diego. It was commissioned as a Marine Corps base in 1921.
