Alluvial fan

Alluvial << uh LOO vee uhl, >> fan, is a fan-shaped deposit of layered gravels, sands, silts, and other materials. An alluvial fan is formed where the velocity of a stream is suddenly reduced, particularly where a stream leaves a mountain range and enters a large valley or standing body of water.
