Parenthesis

Parenthesis, << puh REHN thuh sihs, >> is a word, phrase, or sentence added to another sentence for the purpose of extra explanation, information, or comment. The word parenthesis comes from the Greek, meaning to put in or to place in. In writing, a parenthesis is often set off in parenthetical marks ( ), called parentheses.
